Applications are now open for the Texas Young Masters Class of 2026. This valuable program is a join initiative between the Texas Commission on the Arts and the Texas Cultural Trust. that provides exemplary Texas student artists in grades 8-11 with the financial help they need to pursue advanced study in the areas of visual arts, literary arts, music, theater, dance, musical theater, folk arts, and media arts. The state’s most talented young artists will receive the title of “Young Master” and be awarded grants of $5,000 per year for up to two years to further their studies in their respective disciplines. Applications, information and guidelines are available online at arts.texas.gov/initiatives/young-masters/. Applications and required supporting materials must be submitted by November 3, 2025.

This past Thursday 15 performing groups from KISD secondary theater programs battled it out in the third annual Lip Sync Battle. Students crafted stellar performances based in
songs from the years 1920 and 2020. Performances varied from rockstar dance moves to zombie apocalypses and even included a showdown between cowboys and aliens. The judges had a tough decision. Congratulations to Rancier Middle School, Killen High School (3rd place), Roy J. Smith Middle School, Ellison High School (2nd place) and Liberty Hill Middle School, Harker Heights High School (1st place)! Thank you to our adjudicators Maureen Adams, Dr. Derek Mudd, and Dr. Terri Osborne for lending your expertise. 🎶 Region VIII High School Choir Auditions – Outstanding Results! 🎶
We are proud to announce that our high school choir programs had a strong showing at the Region VIII High School 9–12 Region Choir Auditions! Across the district, 57 talented students earned places in the Region Choir, demonstrating their dedication, hard work, and vocal excellence.
Even more impressively, 34 of these students advanced to the Pre-Area Round of Auditions, moving one step closer to earning a coveted spot in the Texas All-State Choir. Region auditions are the first in a rigorous three-tier process, and advancing is a major achievement.
A heartfelt congratulations to all of our choir students, and a big thank you to our exceptional choir directors for their leadership and commitment to excellence in music education.
